Installing Windows 7 not on the first SATA connector

The backstory: I was trying to install Windows 7 on a system with a regular hard drive and a solid-state drive. The hardware setup happened…to have the HDD attached to the first SATA connector and the SSD to the second one (and this could not be changed). ¶ So far, so good. Should be easy, one would think. Well, yes, unless it is supposed to be installed on the second SATA connector. ¶ For some obscure reason Windows insists on installing its SYSTEM partition on the drive attached to the very first SATA connector. Regardless of any BIOS settings (boot order, disabled drives, ….)
